AUSTIN, TEXAS April 19, 2011 — Leading-edge user interface design studio, projekt202 L.P., was chosen by Charles Schwab to help design StreetSmart Edge™, the company’s new, breakthrough Active Trader platform. The highly intuitive platform was launched March 1 to Charles Schwab’s thousands of active trader clients.
“Our objective in building StreetSmart Edge was to create a platform that mirrors the way active traders think and interact with the market while offering the functionality they expect,” said Kelli Keough, vice president of active trading at Charles Schwab. “We selected projekt202 for their research-based approach and focus on creating a truly customer-centric design. Our vision was to work with a team that could help us create a platform that thinks like a trader, so that clients can focus on the market and not on the platform.”
To design StreetSmart Edge, projekt202 observed active traders in action, synthesized user feedback, and researched new features and tools that traders identified as a priority. The new platform is designed to be highly intuitive and synthesize market data in understandable formats to provide traders with the background they need to discover and take advantage of more trade opportunities. The flexible system adapts to the unique trading styles of each user, allowing them to easily monitor existing positions and strategically analyze technical and fundamental data.
“Charles Schwab knows its active trader clients extremely well, and wanted to serve this unique group with an intelligent, integrated and highly functional platform. We worked collaboratively with the company to understand their clients and their needs. We started with research and undertook extensive mental modeling to produce a design that empowered traders,” said Peter Eckert, co-founder and chief creative officer, projekt202.
StreetSmart Edge provides users with intuitive, integrated tools, including technical and fundamental research, robust charting capabilities and analytics; a flexible trading environment that adapts to users as their skills or strategies change; and enhanced account management that allows users to analyze their profit potential and manage their market exposure.
projekt202 began working in collaboration with Charles Schwab on the new platform in 2008, designing the interface using Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) control library. A key objective for Charles Schwab was ensuring Microsoft’s advanced technology supported its functional and performance needs.
“Engaging user interfaces are quickly becoming an increasing priority for companies as people seek solutions that offer as much intuitiveness and simplicity as they do function,” continued Eckert. “We are excited to work with Charles Schwab—a company that is laser focused on innovating and providing customer-centric tools to their clients.”
