History

Peter Eckert and Jeff Steinberg met while working at the Austin office of a prominent creative consultancy.  Over the course of several projects, they noticed a common thread that linked design discussions with various clients:  Customers kept asking, “Why can’t I get user interface strategy and design from a single service provider? Why can’t I find experienced designers within my price range? Why is it so difficult to work with larger agencies? And why can’t vendors teach me good design principles – not just sell me design?” Peter and Jeff started asking themselves the same questions. In 2003, they formed a new kind of company to start finding the answers.

They did not start off in haste… or with much luck. Over the course of six months, they wrote a sophisticated business plan, and when they took it to banks seeking financing for their venture, they were met with something less than enthusiasm. It seemed that financiers could understand hardware and code but not UI design. As a result, projekt202 got off the ground through the strategic use of credit cards and lines of credit.

It was a risky way to start a company but it paid off almost immediately as the emerging company quickly landed some major clients.

Today, projekt202 employs approximately forty passionate designers and researchers and has seen its revenues significantly increase every year. From a humble beginning, the company has gone on to gain industry-wide recognition along with numerous honors for itself and its clients.
